Q: What's the deal with the yogurt on "Burn Notice"? I've been watching it on DVD recently, and it seems like that's all they eat.

According to series star Jeffrey Donovan and series creator Matt Nix, it was just a joke that sort of stuck.

"It was just something that was written into the script by Matt," Donovan told E! News. "For some reason, every time I open the fridge, it says, 'All there is is yogurt.'"

It began in the first episode and was referred to multiple times afterward.

Nix, in an interview with AVClub.com, offered two different explanations, in keeping with his dual role as producer and writer. His first supports Donovan's claim. "It was something we started doing in the pilot and just sort of stuck with it."

However, he offers a writer's answer as well to explain his most famous creation's taste for the dairy snack.

"The spyish answer is that if you're traveling around the world, and you're in a lot of different places with different kinds of food -- particularly if you're in oil-producing countries and that kind of thing -- you're looking for an inexpensive, consistent and cheap form of protein."

That's the kind of answer a dairy marketing board dreams of, but Nix insists money had nothing to do with it.

"It was kind of an accident and became a fun thing to have recur."
