"Staying busy" is the best way to put it.

Matthew Gray Gubler played the eidetic-memoried Dr. Spencer Reid for the entire 15-season run of "Criminal Minds," one of the biggest shows on TV in its time, and so expectations were fairly high for what he'd do next.

A new, big project has yet to materialize, but it's only been a year ("Criminal Minds" left the air in February 2020).

In the meantime, he's taken on a few small-ish roles, such as a guest spot on the experimental Showtime series "Cinema Toast" and a role in the comedic short film "Beginner's Luck" (2020).

He also has a role lined up in the feature-length indie comedy "King Knight" due out later this year. As with most indie pictures before release, details are scarce so far.

But it actually looks like Gubler's first big post-"Criminal Minds" role might be "Criminal Minds."

Paramount , the recently launched streaming service, is already considering a revival of the smash-hit procedural.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, Paget Brewster, who played Emily Prentiss on the show, said Paramount has approached "everyone who was in the cast for the last four seasons" to see if they would return for the revival. "And every one of us who can, who isn't already signed on to another show, [has] been negotiating this."

That, as stated above, would include Gubler. And Brewster says everyone's pretty keen about it.

"Everyone's trying to make this happen. We really enjoy each other, and we really enjoy how much our fans like the show."
