Q&A

Q: What happened to the original Faith Newman on "The Young and the Restless?" Watching her grow up on "Y&R" was a pleasure. She's a great actress. I also loved her in the Dolly Parton movies.

I actually don't know what happened to the original Faith Newman, but that's not really what you're asking.

Alyvia Alyn Lind, who also appeared in the Dolly Parton movies you refer to, was actually the fifth Faith Newman (and then the seventh).

As is often the case with soaps, several people have played the character, starting with two sets of twin babies, before Lind stepped into the role when the actress was just three years old.

She made it her own, though, holding it from 2011 to just a few weeks ago (minus a break in the mid-2010s to do a few outside projects, including playing a young version of Dolly Parton in 2015's "Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors," hence being the fifth and the seventh to play Faith).

She left the role to take the path of so many innocent-looking teen actresses: she's going to horror.

She landed a regular role on the much-anticipated "Chucky," a TV adaptation of the long-running horror film series about a cursed and murderous doll. "Chucky" will debut later this year on Syfy and feature Lind as one of the four teen leads, according to the insiders at Deadline.com.

It's part of Lind's ongoing effort to branch out from soap acting. She's moonlighted on other projects throughout her time on "Y&R," most notably co-starring in the Netflix sitcom "Daybreak" in 2019.

Along with the premiere of "Chucky," she'll also be appearing in the feature-length thriller "Masquerade," which she completed while still on "Y&R" but won't be released until later this year.
