The third season of FX's hit period drama "The Americans" is currently being filmed and will premiere on the cable channel in January.

This is a pretty fundamental question in TV-series production -- how do you keep a long-running show fresh without changing the dynamic that made it successful in the first place? It's an even trickier problem in "Doc Martin's" case, though, because no one can quite figure out why it's successful at all.

While everyone around him seems to be finding "The One," med school dropout Wallace (Radcliffe) has been constantly let down by bad relationships. He decides to take a step back from the dating game, until he meets his roommate’s charming cousin, Chantry (Kazan), with whom he has an immediate rapport. Unfortunately, she’s already in a long-term relationship, so she and Wallace strike up what becomes a close friendship. Wallace’s romantic feelings won’t let up, however, and in time it becomes clear that the two must take a hard look at their relationship.
