Q: Why is it that the directors and producers of movies think that they have to use the f-word in their movies? We went to see "The Judge" with Downey and Duvall, and the movie in itself was pretty good, but the filthy talk ruined it for us.

Unfortunately, there's no one answer for why producers put profane language into their films -- it's part stylistic decision, part marketing decision, part artistic decision (which is extra impossible to explain) -- but some do say it's getting worse.

Among the "some" are Harvard researchers, who identified a phenomenon they called "ratings creep," whereby the content of films in each MPAA ratings category seems to get more adult over time.

If I Stay

Talented young musician Mia Hall (Moretz) has a bright future. She’s set her sights on Juilliard, and, at just 17, she may have found the love of her life (Blackley). Everything changes when a car accident kills her family and leaves her in a coma from which she might not awaken. In an out-of-body experience, she looks back on her life and watches her loved ones visit at the hospital as she struggles with the decision to either fight for survival and wake up an orphan or stop fighting altogether.

22 Jump Street

Officers Morton Schmidt (Hill) and Greg Jenko (Tatum) are recruited to go undercover as students at the local college in order to take down a secret drug ring. Their partnership begins to be challenged, however, as the two fall into their respective cliques and niches: Schmidt in the bohemian art major scene and Jenko on the football team.

As they search for their daughter, the couple uncovers a dangerous underground scam being run by the adoption agency in which they’d put their trust.

The Wind Rises

Unable to become a pilot due to his poor eyesight, Jirô (Gordon-Levitt) joins a major Japanese engineering company and becomes one of the world's leading airplane designers. The Bold and the Beautiful

Ivy suggests that Hope get over her lingering feelings for Liam because he is moving on with his life. At the same time, Wyatt helps his brother focus his attention squarely on Ivy and advises him to take the relationship to the next level. Hope and Ivy pose for a glamorous photo shoot in Amsterdam, but Hope is quickly consumed with jealousy upon witnessing the chemistry between Ivy and Liam, and the women try to out-model one another during the latter half of the shoot. Later, Liam and Ivy enjoy a romantic boat ride while taking in the sights. Bill is amused by Quinn's news that she and Deacon are now a couple. Meanwhile, Maya enjoys the perks of dating the CEO of Forrester. Ridge listens to Pam's advice on how to get back on Katie's good side. Later, Ridge jumps in to defend Caroline when he sees Rick mistreat her.

Days of Our Lives

Later, Chelsea uncovers the hidden camera in Connor's room and works to find out who put it there. Nikki spills to Victoria what she overheard Stitch confess to Maureen. When Victoria runs out to get answers from Stitch, her evening takes an unexpected turn. Meanwhile, Devon gets a panicked call from Hilary who is worried someone has found out about their affair. Kevin encourages Michael to let Lauren in on what he's going through. Avery grills Joe about his true motivations and demands he swear his business venture isn't part of a vendetta against Dylan.
