In 1992, after a mission to save the space shuttle Endeavor, Jean Grey (Turner) has her psychic abilities amplified from what is believed to be a solar flare. With her mental barriers altered by the accident, she relives trauma from her past, including the realization that she was the cause of the fatal car wreck that killed her parents and left her the sole survivor of her family. While learning to control her pain on the island of Genosha, she encounters Vuk (Chastain), who reveals that the solar flare that altered Jean's abilities was actually a cosmic force that has possessed her. Prof. Charles Xavier (McAvoy) and the other X-Men work together to save Jean from herself, and from those looking to make her powers their own.
