The Duke

In 1961, famed romantic painter and printmaker Francisco Goya's portrait of the Duke of Wellington was stolen from the National Gallery in London. The culprit: a 60-year-old taxi driver named Kempton Bunton (Broadbent). Holding the valuable painting for ransom, Bunton demands not money for himself, but something far more unconventional: that the government invest more in its elderly population. What follows is a heartwarming story of a man trying to do good in his country (despite his questionable methods), all while trying to save his marriage despite the media's attempt to paint a negative public opinion of him.

Director: Roger Michell. Stars: Jim Broadbent, Helen Mirren, Fionn Whitehead, Aimée Kelly, Craig Conway, Heather Craney, Anna Maxwell Martin, James Wilby, Matthew Goode, John Heffernan. 2020. 95 mins.
