Tamera Mowry-Housley hosts “Dr. Seuss Baking Challenge"

Whether you're a food lover or a fan of Dr. Seuss books (perhaps you're both), "Dr. Seuss Baking Challenge" arrives on Prime Video and Amazon Freevee this Tuesday, Dec. 13, and it might make your heart grow three sizes that day.

The new baking competition invites creative bakers to tap into their limitless imaginations, unleash their inner Seuss and draw inspiration from the beloved books, as they bake, make and decorate the most fantastical themed displays.

There are eight episodes in all. As the host, Tamera Mowry-Housley ("The Real") welcomes viewers to the City of Seuss, where the visuals honor the illustrations that brought Who-Ville to life, and made green eggs and ham seem perfectly palatable.

The set alone is a treat for the eyes, especially during this holiday season. Presumably, the true magic lies in the themed challenges, and the jaw-dropping cake creations that will all come together before the viewers' very eyes. But just think of all the memorable characters Dr. Seuss has gifted us, including Sam-I-Am, Norton, Thing One and Thing Two, and especially Cindy Lou Who and The Grinch — truly, the possibilities for these assigned themes are endless.

In "Dr. Seuss Baking Challenge," there is fun to be done and points to be scored: joining Mowry-Housley are pastry chefs Clarice Lam and Joshua John Russell. They'll be critiquing the contestants' elaborate displays and judging them based on accuracy, creativity, taste, and of course, storytelling.

Dr. Seuss (real name Theodor Seuss Geisel) is known for his particular style of storytelling, with all of its fun rhymes and zany word play. It's the reason why his many books — he published more than 60 of them — are still popular today, with more than 600 million copies sold worldwide in over 20 languages.

Nine teams of contestants will compete for a cash prize of $50,000. The Red team is composed of pastry chef Angelo Satterwhite, owner of Angelo Bakes in Albany, New York. Satterwhite cites his grandmother's Mississippi cooking as the start of his food journey, and he's all about creating powerful visuals. His teammate, cake artist Lily Sanchez, is a senior art director whose love of cake art led her to open her own business, Lil' Dame Cake Studio.

On the Blue team, pastry chef Kyle Smothers of Columbia, South Carolina, has a unique connection to the Seuss-verse: he performed in "Seussical: The Musical" and worked at Seuss Landing in Universal's Islands of Adventure theme park in Orlando, Florida. His teammate, Huiwen Lu, is an engineer, cake artist and owner of Cocobelly Cakes in Southern California.

The Brown team's Maya Hayes is a self-professed free spirit from Vermont and a graduate of the New England Culinary Institute. She bakes with love, and as the child of environmentally-minded parents, she has a soft spot for "The Lorax." Teammate Angel Figueroa grew up in Chile, and after moving to the United States, she opened her own business specializing in 3D-sculpted cakes.

Purple team's pastry professional is Nikki Jessop, who trained in classical French pastry at the Institut Paul Bocuse in Lyon, France. Jessop enjoys creating one-of-a-kind desserts using unconventional ingredients and flavor combinations, often fusing her Thai and American heritage. Her partner-in-Seuss is Colombian-born cake artist Alejandra Galan, who credits her parents with fostering an entrepreneurial spirit that led to her successful cookie business.

From Kannapolis, North Carolina, Lorenzo Delgado brings his energy and love of color and textures to the Yellow team. His cake artist partner, Tareka Lofton of Fort Worth, Texas, is the owner of Loft22 Cakes, which specializes in the kind of soaring and sculpted, gravity-defying cakes that populate the City of Seuss.

Teal team's Rebecca Reed of Jacksonville, Florida, is a successful executive pastry chef who credits husband Ben with encouraging her to chase her dreams. The French Culinary Institute graduate is partnered with Ashley Ball from Rock Spring, Georgia. A mom to four boys, Ball is a self-taught baker and furniture maker who is equally comfortable with baking and power tools.

A self-described Jersey girl with Cuban roots, Green team's Cristina Vazquez loves to mix baking genres. Her teammate, Kerrie Breuer, was born with one hand but that doesn't define her, nor does it limit her: the French Pastry School graduate has made it her mission to master every aspect of cake design.

On the Orange team, pastry chef Chris Cwierz has seemingly done it all and has experience with building freestanding sugar-and-chocolate sculptures that could tower over a young reader. His teammate, Alene Paulk, has three young readers at home, all under the age of nine, and is no stranger to larger-than-life cakes herself.

Finally, on the Pink team, pastry chef Daniel Santo Edwards started his own cake business after college, and now works as a head pastry chef. He's been partnered up with cake artist Joyce Osorio, a self-taught baker from Brooklyn, New York.

You may like them. You will see. So set your Seuss-loving spirit free and embrace all the fun of "Dr. Seuss Baking Challenge," available to stream Tuesday, Dec. 13, on Prime Video and Amazon Freevee. In the words of Dr. Seuss himself: "you'll miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut."
