Action and intrigue play together in this adaptation of the hit video game franchise. Callum Lynch (Fassbender) has spent his life on the run ever since he witnessed his father murder his mother. When a mysterious organization rescues him from his own legal troubles, Callum learns that he's the descendent of a legendary assassin, and that the organization has technology that can allow him to relive his ancestor's memories. With a villainous group closing in on an object that they could use to enslave all of humanity, Callum will have to embrace his ancestry to find it before they do.
With his theatre facing financial difficulties, koala Buster (McConaughey) comes up with the idea to hold a singing competition to attract local interest in this animated feature. When a printing mixup results in a prize of $100,000 -- rather than just $1,000 -- being advertised, it suddenly seems like every animal in the city has decided to try out for the contest. When the musical hopefuls also bring their own personal problems to the stage, and with a promised prize of far more than Buster can afford, it begins to look increasingly unlikely that the competition will be the golden ticket that saves his beloved theater.
Elizabeth Sloane (Chastain) is a Washington lobbyist, and she prides herself on being one of the best of her trade. When the NRA looks to hire her for her unique set of skills, she instead turns the other way, and agrees to work for an organization led by a rich philanthropist (Strong) that's antithetical to everything the NRA stands for. Sloane's obsession with always being the best, however, quickly catches up to her.
