What are heroes? Not of the superhero variety (although they're pretty cool, too), but the everyday, real-life heroes.

Most people would agree that the greatest heroes are people who put their lives on the line to save that of another. The woman who dives into a frozen river to save a drowning child is a hero, as is the man who fights off a bear that's threatening his family.

Late Laughs for the week of October 7 - 13, 2012

Conan: Conan O'Brien

Mitt Romney is trailing in the polls. After being accused of being too vague, Romney's campaign team says they will start being more specific. When asked when, they said, "Soon-ish."

Mitt Romney said if he had Mexican parents, he'd have a better shot of winning. But unfortunately, Romney was tragically held back by being born to rich white people.

Q: I was watching the movie "The International" the other day and I recognized the actor who played one of the two New York cops, the older one, but I'm not sure why. Can you tell me who he is?

Author:
Adam Thomlison / TV Media

The cop who helps Interpol agent Louis Salinger bring down an arms-dealing bank in the intrigue-laden 2009 film "The International" was played by longtime supporting actor Jack McGee.

Though he's a respected film actor with dozens of entries on his resume, he's probably better known for his TV work.

He's probably most recognizable these days as Capt. Mike Sutton on the USA Network crime comedy "Common Law." Prior to that, he played Chief Jerry Reilly on the firefighting drama "Rescue Me."

30 Rock, on NBC

Jack's shockingly bad fall programming line-up confuses Liz in this season premiere. She also struggles to cope with bridezilla Jenna after being recruited to be the maid of honor. Kenneth and Hazel have Tracy over for dinner.

Once a novelty in prime time, a special guest star boosted ratings temporarily or gave audiences a good laugh. These days, however, actors flock to guest-starring roles in established dramas, and one drama in particular has had great luck with bringing in fresh faces.
