He does: It's "Mr." You can see it in the first big-screen film, which itself is simply titled "Bean." In the memorable scene when he shows his passport to a customs officer and has to recreate the cross-eyed face he made for the photo, the camera focuses on the passport for a brief second. It's done for the joke, so we can see the picture, but sharp-eyed viewers can also see that the given-name field says "MR."

It was actually his last name that took some creativity -- there are a lot of vegetables to choose from. Rowan Atkinson, who has played the character on stage, TV and film, said he and co-creator/comedy partner Richard Curtis started using him in their live act before they ever gave him a name. They first chose Mr. White, but dismissed it as being too bland.

"So we started thinking about vegetables. Carrots, cauliflower, broccoli," Atkinson told the San Francisco Chronicle in a 2007 interview. "We went through the list, and we came across bean, and bean just seemed ... well, it begins with a B, which helps, because I'm a great believer that any word that begins with a B is automatically funnier than any word that doesn't."

It would seem they were happy with their choice, since they've been returning to the character for decades. Most recently, they made the short film "Mr. Bean: Funeral" to celebrate the character's 25th anniversary in 2015.
