The lispy and occasionally shrill voice you're recognizing is that of rising comedian Kristen Schaal.

If she sounds familiar, it's probably because her voice has become more famous than her face.

Though she's an occasional on-screen guest on "The Daily Show" and stars on the Fox sitcom "The Last Man on Earth," she's actually been doing far more voice work lately.

On top of her regular spot on "Bob's Burgers," Schaal also voices one of the lead characters in Disney's "Gravity Falls" and is a regular guest on the critically acclaimed Netflix series "BoJack Horseman."

On the big screen, she's done voices in the 2013 hits "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2" and "Despicable Me 2," as well as the equally high-profile "Toy Story 3" and "Shrek Forever After," both released in 2010. (She seems to specialize in livening up franchises at risk of becoming tired.)

Incredibly, when Schaal was first starting out, she thought that her distinctive voice would be a problem. She said in an interview with Vulture.com that her lisp actually got her rejected from an acting class early on, but that it's now become an asset.

"It's definitely landed me some really sweet voice-over work that I've been hoping to do forever. But yeah, I thought it would hold me back for sure."

In hindsight, it has done just the opposite. "Women and Hollywood" blogger Inkoo Kang recently called Schaal "one of the busiest women in TV."
