The delightfully Machiavellian schemer and brothel owner Petyr Baelish, better known to many as Littlefinger, is played by Aidan Gillen. He wasn't very well known before landing the gig on the most talked-about show of the decade, but business has picked up for him since.

Prior to landing the "Game of Thrones" gig in 2011, he was best known to North American audiences as Tommy Carcetti in another critically acclaimed HBO hit, "The Wire," from 2004 to 2008.

He was a little better known across the pond. Having been born in Ireland, he had a number of small roles in British film and TV before trying to break into the American market, which he first did with a small role in the 2003 action-comedy "Shanghai Knights."

Nowadays, with his "Game of Thrones" fame behind him, he's landing much bigger roles. Most notably, perhaps, he's rumored to have secured the title role in a miniseries adaptation of the classic spy novel "The Spy Who Came in From the Cold" that's currently being developed by AMC.

Gillen also just started work on "James and Lucia," a biopic of the Irish author James Joyce, again in the title role.
