Q&A

Q: When is "The Wall" coming back? It's fun and exciting. I've not seen it being promoted as a summer replacement and hope it hasn't been dropped.

I'm going to assume your use of "dropped" was an intentional pun, and I love it. And so, you've earned the good news you're about to receive: the show, in which contestants' success is measured in balls being dropped down a towering wall, has been renewed for another season.

The problem is, the return date might well be as hard to predict as the game itself.

NBC announced the renewal in March without giving a date. The last season was already airing by this point last year, so the network isn't following a pattern at which we can guess.

Indeed, when the renewal was announced, the Hollywood Reporter said this ability to be moved around the schedule is what makes the show valuable to NBC:

"Unlike flagship alternative series 'The Voice' and 'America's Got Talent,' 'The Wall' has done NBC a service in its ability to fill scheduling holes where needed."

It was first needed in the winter of 2017, which is when the freshman season aired. The second was split between the summer of 2017 and the winter of 2018, and it has switched nights repeatedly over that time as well.

All that means it could pop up pretty well any time. It'll likely happen sometime this summer, though -- they started casting for the new season at the beginning of April.
