The obvious joke would be to say it's been resurrected, so let's not go there and just say it's been renewed instead.

The first season was only eight episodes long, so you likely aren't the only one to be surprised that the most recent episode was a season finale.

You also aren't the only one wondering about its future. Though it started off well in the ratings, the numbers quickly dipped, and "Variety" TV critic Brian Lowry suggested the drop was reflected in the quality of the show as well.

"'Resurrection' started with enviable promise, but there was also a nagging sense the series couldn't sustain its most delicate qualities," he said, in suggesting that it might not earn a renewal despite it once seeming like a "no-brainer."

Furthermore, its first season was short partly because it was initially billed as a "limited series." But ABC has decided to remove that limit and renew it for a second season.

The news for fans gets better: Not only has it been renewed, but it's been promoted to the fall schedule (it premiered last March, essentially as a spring fill-in), which means the season 2 premiere is only about three months away (a specific date has yet to be announced, though it will remain on Sundays).

The renewal is also good news for fans, since the first season ended with a pretty mysterious cliffhanger, fitting for a show that has consistently raised more questions than it's answered.

The premise is about the small town of Arcadia, Mo., whose citizens start returning from the dead, decades later. In a sense, every episode was a cliffhanger as the mystery just got deeper.
