The makers of the acclaimed FX Western series "Justified" are taking a well-deserved break for the fall and winter, but they do so comfortably, knowing that they'll be back in the spring.
The series was barely halfway through its debut season when the FX suits announced it'd be back for a second 13-episode run.
"Graham Yost, Tim Olyphant, Elmore Leonard and their talented partners have crafted a uniquely ambitious and entertaining series which is everything we aspired to when we developed the show," gushed FX president John Landgraf at the time.
That's a lot of famous names he dropped in that one statement.
Olyphant is an emerging screen star who at the time of "Justified's" premiere was probably best known as the villain in the latest "Die Hard" instalment, "Live Free or Die Hard." He had a high-profile turn a little while ago as the star of this year's hit horror film "The Crazies."
He did, as you point out, already have some horror-film experience, having appeared in "Scream 2" (1997), though he didn't show up in any of the other sequels.
The Elmore Leonard Landgraf mentioned is indeed the bestselling author and acclaimed screenwriter, whose stories have been turned into such hit films as "3:10 to Yuma," 1995's "Get Shorty" and many, many more. "Justified" is based on two of his novels, "Pronto" and "Riding the Rap," as well as his short story "Fire in the Hole," all of which feature U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (played by Olyphant).
Of the three named, Graham Yost is probably the least well known, but that's only because he always takes on the often-thankless, behind-the-scenes gigs. In fact, he's had a huge amount of success on television, having worked on the hit HBO miniseries "The Pacific" and "From the Earth to the Moon," as well as a host of other TV series. He's also an accomplished screenwriter himself, having crashed onto the Hollywood scene with his script for a little 1994 film called "Speed."
