I commend you on your patience and your enduring affection for a show that's been gone for three years, which is longer than it lasted on air.

Of course, a cop show with a strong Elvis Presley theme (the episodes were named after Elvis songs) was bound to inspire that kind of loyalty.

But not enough people were inspired by "Memphis Beat" to make it worth TNT's while to keep. It was canceled after its second season in 2011.

The series starred former pro-skateboarder and teen-comedy star Jason Lee as a detective with a passion for the blues and for the city of Memphis, where he solved crimes in a predictably offbeat way (I could also have used "to the beat of his own drum" or a number of other music metaphors).

Lee has been splitting his time between the small and big screens since. He's appeared in brief arcs on other shows, such as "Raising Hope" and "Up All Night" and has squeezed in a few movies, including a third installment of the successful "Alvin and the Chipmunks" franchise (also a very musical affair).

For his next trick, he's moving to a different sort of screen entirely. He's just been cast in a new pilot for Amazon Studios, which produces original shows to be streamed online on Amazon.com.

His series, "Cocked," is about three men (played by Lee, the great supporting actor Brian Dennehy and "True Blood" star Sam Trammel) who run a family gun-manufacturing business.

Amazon has been pushing hard to get in to the original-series game and already has a number available to watch, including "Alpha House" starring John Goodman and "The After," a new supernatural series from "X-Files" creator Chris Carter.
