It's been nothing but good news for "Longmire" fans over the past year. The show aired its fourth season on Netflix in September (after it was dropped by original broadcaster A&E), and in October, Netflix announced it was renewing "Longmire" for a fifth season. And just a few weeks ago, the news came out that the fourth season would be available on DVD this September.

The DVD announcement is great news for those who haven't embraced watching TV via the Internet. That group likely includes a number of "Longmire" fans, since the show skews towards older viewers, while Netflix subscribers have traditionally been younger. This would seem to make the show a bad match for Netflix, but if there's DVD revenue coming in as well (let's not forget that Netflix started as a DVD-rental business), it starts to make sense.

Fortunately, "Longmire" fans have proven to be patient. More than a year passed between its cancelation by A&E and its premiere on Netflix, and during most of that time, fans didn't even know if it would return at all. So those who don't have Netflix will probably be willing to wait a few more months -- until Sept. 13, to be exact, so mark your calendars, be they paper or digital.
