If the actress who played Gertrude looked right at home in the film's Alaskan setting (though it was actually filmed in Massachusetts), it's because rising star Malin Akerman is used to northern latitudes, having been born in Sweden.
The year 2009 was a big one for Akerman, as she appeared in three major films that year. "The Proposal" was a huge hit, but her role was smallish. It was not so in that year's comic-based smash hit "Watchmen," in which she played Laurie Jupiter, a.k.a. the second Silk Spectre. And Akerman was back on the screens again in the fall of last year in another romantic comedy, "Couples Retreat."
If it wasn't in one of those that you saw Akerman, perhaps it was the 2008 Katherine Heigl rom-com "27 Dresses." Or maybe it was her breakout role, the 2007 Ben Stiller comedy "The Heartbreak Kid," in which she plays Stiller's too-good-to-be-true girlfriend who, upon marrying her, proves to be just that.
