Though he's certainly been a TV man for most of his career, gifted character actor Ed O'Neill's sloping, care-worn face has popped up more than a few times on the big screen as well.
The film you were watching was "The Bone Collector," in which O'Neill had a major role opposite stars Angelina Jolie and Denzel Washington.
He also had memorable cameos in both of the "Wayne's World" movies, as well as larger roles in a long list of cop movies (O'Neill's specialty), such as 1989's "Disorganized Crime" and "K-9" (at which point he was riding the crest of his "Married … With Children" fame), 2000's "Lucky Numbers", opposite John Travolta, and, most recently, the 2008 David Mamet movie "Redbelt."
But, of course, most remember him for his TV work, of course as chronically disappointed shoe salesman Al Bundy on "Married … With Children," but also the 2003 revival of the classic cop show "Dragnet," and, most recently, the quirky HBO series "John From Cincinnati."
He'll be making a big return to the sitcom format this fall when he stars in the new ABC series "Modern Family," which was picked up as a series in May.
