Q: I was watching "Living Single," with Kim Fields, who many years ago was in a sitcom called "The Facts Of Life." What has happened to the cast members of those two shows?

The career milestones of the biggest star to come out of either show hardly need recounting, but Queen Latifah has certainly come a long way  since her role in "Living Single."

The series, which ran from 1993 to 1998 on Fox, offered an early acting role to the established rap artist, but it became clear fairly quickly that her acting talent was at least as great as her musical one. Now in the wake of her acclaimed, critic-stifling turn in 2002's "Chicago," she's become a major star who just finished hosting the glitzy "People's Choice Awards."

Sadly, little of that success rubbed off on her "Living Single" co-stars. Erika Alexander, who played Maxine Shaw, has had the most, remaining a busy TV and film bit player. She appeared opposite Denzel Washington in "Deja Vu" in 2006, and has done the usual gamut of guest-hungry prime-time cop shows ("Criminal Minds," the "CSIs," and such).

Kim Fields has undergone a bit of a career overhaul and found some success lately behind the camera. She's directed the bulk of the episodes of Tyler Perry's hit TBS sitcom "Meet the Browns," and helmed seven episodes of Perry's earlier series, "House of Payne."

Sadly, things turned out roughly the same for the stars of Fields's star-making series, "The Facts of Life." Of the main cast -- Fields, Nancy McKeon, Mindy Cohn, Lisa Whelchel -- Fields has had the most success since.

McKeon went on to a series of poorly reviewed made-for-TV films, though she's had a bit of an upswing lately with a brief arc on the smash-hit teen series "Sonny With a Chance."

Cohn has carved out an almost entirely Scooby Doo-related career, voicing Velma in a surprisingly long string of TV shows and straight-to-video movies.

Whelchel, on the other hand, almost entirely retired from acting after "The Facts of Life."
