Though season 1 aired last spring, running from April to June on FX, the new season won't premiere until the fall. When it comes back, it's going to look a little different as well.

As is popular nowadays on cable (see also hits such as "True Detective" and "American Horror Story"), the show's second season will tell a completely different story with completely different characters.

Unlike some of those other shows, though, the story will still be related to the first season's and will center around a character we've already met.

In season 1, Keith Carradine's character, Lou Solverson, mentioned a harrowing case he worked when he was a younger man. The second season will focus on that case, taking place in 1979.

The new season will be even more star-studded than the first, with notable actors such as Patrick Wilson, Ted Danson, Jean Smart, Kirsten Dunst and Nick Offerman joining the huge ensemble cast.

Wilson, best known for his lead role in the surprise 2013 horror hit "The Conjuring," will replace Carradine in the role of Solverson.
