Rana, the ex-girlfriend who trapped hiker Aron Ralston (played by James Franco) thinks back on while close to death in 2010's "127 Hours," was played by French actress Clémence Poesy.
She is actually more famous to North American audiences for her role as Fleur Delacour in three of the Harry Potter films. She was introduced as Harry's competitor in the fourth film, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" (2005).
Though she was supposed to be playing Harry's school colleague, Poesy was actually 23 when the film was released, making her quite a bit older than the other stars, who were of high school age at the time.
Indeed, she had already been a lead by that point, having played the title role in the French-German film "Olga's Summer" (2002).
Most of her work has been done in Europe, in fact. The only other film she's done that has made it into the North American consciousness was the 2008 crime comedy "In Bruges," which, though shot in Belgium by an Irish writer-director, was co-produced by the American company Focus Features. It also starred established leading man Colin Farrell, which helped it get attention on this side of the Atlantic.
