Phil Keoghan claims to have visited more than 100 foreign countries in his life, and he counts the United States among them, since he was born in New Zealand.

He also did some of his growing up in Canada, Australia and the Caribbean, though, which he says is the reason for his tough-to-pin-down accent. It also served as pretty good training for a life on the road.

He said in an interview with NewZealand.com that it's a rare treat when "The Amazing Race" goes to New Zealand, and that on the last visit, he took his team to his parents' house "for a cup of tea and scones."

The distinctive necklace he has worn in every season of "The Amazing Race" is a traditional charm of the native Maori people of New Zealand, which is said to provide safety over water. That's a suitable gift, given that he logs thousands of miles of flight time every year for his show.
