Sadly enough, not so far, though the company has been known to keep its mystery fans in suspense.
Universal released the first season of "The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries" series in early 2005, then waited more than two years before releasing Season 2 in the summer of 2007.
The company certainly seemed enthused about the property at the time, praising its "tons of wholesome, high-spirited fun."
However the more skeptical industry watchers pointed out that Universal's enthusiasm was more likely tied to the release of the big-screen "Nancy Drew" reboot that was released on June 15, 2007, three days after the Season 2 set.
The fear, then, would be that Universal's opinion about the third-season release was equally tied to that movie's box-office performance. And it's a fearsome prospect indeed -- while it didn't exactly tank, the film "Nancy Drew" barely recouped its budget after grossing a disappointing $7 million on opening weekend.
"The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries" series ran from 1977 to 1979 and featured an interesting setup where (at first) it rotated week to week, with one episode devoted to Joe and Frank Hardy (played by teen heartthrobs Shaun Cassidy and Parker Stevenson) and Nancy Drew (Pamela Sue Martin for the first season and part of the second, replaced by Janet Louise Johnson partway into Season 2). There were, of course, many crossovers, most of which appeared in the second season. Some of the plots were based on the original children's books, but most were written specifically for the series.
Fans of the Nancy Drew character specifically need not be too distressed about the Season 3 delay, as she was dropped from the show entirely at that point and it was renamed "The Hardy Boys Mysteries."
