It's been a little more than a year since the Season 5 finale of "Damages" aired on DirecTV, and so it makes sense for fans to start losing hope.

That is, if they didn't already hear the announcement ahead of the premiere of the fifth season that it would, indeed, be the last.

When DirecTV rescued the series from cancelation by its original network, FX, after its third season, the satellite-TV company said it would produce two more, and it kept that promise.

Despite earning lots of awards attention and critical love, mostly for star Glenn Close, the series consistently struggled to gain ratings (it was reportedly drawing fewer than a million viewers per episode when FX dropped it).

The final season, which aired in 2012, is now available on DVD, as is a complete-series set for those who have a lot of catching up to do.

The series centered around the rivalry between Close's top-flight lawyer, Patty Hewes, and her former protégé, Ellen Parsons (played by Rose Byrne).
