I can tell you that when I first saw her in the Epix drama "Berlin Station," I said: "Hey, that's Ensign Ro from 'Star Trek,'" but that might be because I'm a great big nerd. There are cooler reasons to know Michelle Forbes.

"The Killing" is a pretty cool reason -- Forbes was praised for her performance in the first season of the AMC crime drama, which Variety critic Brian Lowry called a "grim, absorbing show," adding that Forbes's performance was "especially good."

In fact, apart from a small role in 2015's "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2," most of her notable work has been long arcs in critically acclaimed (that is to say, "cool") TV shows.

After her run as Ro Laren in "Star Trek: The Next Generation" in the early '90s (which really is what put her on the map; other people say so, too), she appeared in two seasons of the Emmy-winning cop show "Homicide: Life on the Street," the second season of Fox's smash hit "24," a season of "Prison Break," HBO's "In Treatment" and the first two seasons of HBO's "True Blood" (back when it was still critically acclaimed).

The trend continues with "Berlin Station," which L.A. Times critic Robert Lloyd called "a tense, terse thriller ... a new suit cut to classic lines." Lloyd also offered a spectacular bit of praise for Forbes's performance, calling it "forbes-midable" (cue the sad trombone).
