Your concerns are quite a bit premature. "Berlin Station" has, in fact, been renewed for a third season. And it hasn't even been gone for all that long.

The second season ended in December, but its seasons are quite short, so that one had only premiered in October. We still have a fair bit of time before the third season can be considered late.

According to the news release announcing the season 3 renewal, the folks at Epix, the cable channel that produces the show, are pretty big on "Berlin Station."

"This past season was timely, significant, and almost eerily prescient in its mirroring of real-life events this year, and we are looking forward to working with the talented teams at Paramount TV and Anonymous Content on another installment," said Jocelyn Diaz, the channel's executive vice-president of original programming ("Berlin Station" was one of the channel's early forays into producing its own content).

She has a point -- the second season tackled a storyline about neo-Nazism, which is currently a big issue in Europe and elsewhere. And the first season was all about a whistleblower leaking CIA secrets, which was pretty timely as well.

Series executive producer Brad Winters has promised more of the same for the new season. "Fortunately, I think it's a show that just lends itself to continuous story both in the global sense and in the character sense," he told Deadline.com. "I think the ensemble nature of the show undergirds it with such potential in terms of character-based storytelling. Looking at the world at the moment, there's just no shortage of arenas to dive into."
