Q: Is A&E's "Rodeo Girls" toast? I used to run the barrel races as a kid and really enjoyed these ladies and all their drama and adventures.

It's a little hard to say, but it's looking like "Rodeo Girls" has taken its last trip around the barrels.

The show's long-term prospects were muddy to begin with. Though A&E officially announced it as a "six-episode series" before its premiere in December 2013, the show's official website lists those six episodes as being part of season 1, suggesting that there was at least the possibility of a season 2.

That possibility, however, has become less and less likely as the months have passed. The sixth, and so far final, episode aired back in January 2014, and A&E hasn't even mentioned the show since.

Other people have, though. Just a few weeks ago, Marvel Murphy, one of the five "Rodeo Girls" referred to in the show's title, offered a tiny bit of hope on Twitter.

"For those of you asking about a new show ... we are working on it!"

Of course, that could mean a lot of things. "Working on it" could just mean the cast is lobbying A&E for a renewal, and "a new show" doesn't necessarily mean another season of "Rodeo Girls." It could be something else altogether.

And the fact that this is the only mention of a new show, even from the other cast members (all of whom spend a fair bit of time on Twitter), suggests fans shouldn't put too much stock in it.

The series was (or is) about wealthy socialite Darcy LaPier's attempt to break into the world of barrel racing, a female-centric rodeo event. It also followed four of her rodeo colleagues: Murphy, Barb West, Megan Etcheberry and Jessica Holmberg.

If "Rodeo Girls" has indeed ended after just one season, the critics at least won't be surprised. It wasn't very well received, with "New York Post" reviewer Michael Starr saying, "it plays like a boring vanity project."
