We may have suspected it before, but now we know the truth: MTV is turning into a Food Network competitor.

OK, so I'm exaggerating a bit here, but after the success of "House of Food" -- the "Top Chef" meets "Real World" mashup that aired earlier this year -- the youth-skewing network is continuing to explore the ballooning space of food-based television.

Next up on MTV is "Snack-Off," premiering Thursday, July 10. Taking a page from the Food Network's "Chopped" playbook, each episode of "Snack-Off" will bring together three contestants who will be charged with creating the perfect snack food using only what they can find in the set's kitchen.

It's a situation we've all been in, whether it's two in the afternoon or the middle of the night -- we need a snack and we need it now. Unfortunately, the fridge doesn't always want to co-operate with our stomachs, and sometimes these spur-of-the-moment snack combos end up becoming a tasty favorite -- other times they just end up in the trash can.

It's definitely more tongue-in-cheek than most of the other cooking shows out there, too. With eccentric chef Eddie Huang hosting and the winner of each episode taking home the coveted golden spork necklace (along with a fancy little cash prize and their winning recipes in an upcoming cookbook), "Snack-Off" certainly can't be accused of taking itself too seriously.

Naturally, there are judges on hand to pick between the snack winners and losers. Outspoken chef Jason Quinn, supermodel Chrissy Teigen and comedian Yassir Lester will all be on hand to provide their own tongue-in-cheek commentary and, ultimately, pick a winner.

With Millennial favorite Huang hosting hilarious antics in the kitchen and biting commentary from the judges, "Snack-Off" is looking to capture a younger piece of the huge food-centric audience. Folks looking for something a little bit different won't want to miss the fun starting Thursday, July 10, on MTV.
