Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving, it's almost Thanksgiving! Ah yes, the day that marks the start of the holiday season. A day of food, friends, family and, of course, a healthy dose of arguing.

OK, so maybe that's being a bit cynical. Maybe there are families out there that never have a cross word or a dirty look for each other during the Thanksgiving holiday. For most of us, though, there's going to be some tension, but once our bellies are full of turkey and dessert, we let bygones be bygones and just bask in each other's company.

Well, Rev Run and his family seem a bit like my own when it comes to holidays -- they get competitive. Cooking Channel's "Rev Run's Sunday Supper" has been inviting viewers into the Simmons home for Sunday night dinners for a while now, and audiences are invited again for "Rev Run's Thanksgiving Supper" airing Sunday, Nov. 15.

It's a peek inside the planning for the big Thanksgiving meal, but there's trouble a-brewing in this house. Rev Run's wife, Justine, has been planning the menu for months, but when the reverend decides that he wants to make his crispy, deep-fried turkey, the two decide to throw down and see who can make the best Thanksgiving meal.

On Justine's menu: a juicy, oven-roasted turkey with quick-pan gravy; roasted asparagus with bacon; tangy, homemade cranberry sauce; and a pumpkin pie with gingerbread crust for dessert.

From Rev's corner, to serve alongside his fried turkey, he'll have savory individual stuffing muffin cups and mini apple pie bites.

It's a throwdown between the spouses, a dose of healthy competition for the big day. The real winners, though, are the members of their family who get not one, but two mouth-watering Thanksgiving dinners served side by side.

Of course, it's all in good fun, and, at the end of the day, we viewers are also winners in this contest. After all, we get to watch two fantastic meals lovingly prepared by the lovely couple.

"Rev Run's Thanksgiving Supper" kicks off the holiday season Sunday, Nov. 15, on Cooking Channel.
