Wow, you know that foodie culture's gone mainstream when even MTV is getting in on it.

The youth-focused network is known for its programs that appeal to its younger demographic, and its new cooking competition program is a pretty good sign that cooking and food are "in."

"House of Food" premieres on Monday, March 31, and even folks who wouldn't usually tune in to MTV may want to mark their calendars to check this one out.

Something of a cross between Bravo's "Top Chef" and MTV's own "The Real World," "House of Food" will follow along as a group of young people with aspirations of becoming chefs are put through an intensive culinary school.

Of course, there's more to it than that. With no culinary experience and questionable levels of skill, these young adults will be starting from square one. The fact that they'll all be living together, too, will almost definitely ramp up the drama.

Luckily, some of the nation's best chefs are going to be on hand to pass on their skills to the new generation; they'll have three culinary masters in this televised cooking school to show them the ropes.

Brooke Williamson won't be a stranger to "Top Chef" fans. She made it all the way to the finale of "Top Chef: Seattle" before ultimately taking home the second-place title. She's the chef/owner of three restaurants in Los Angeles, and has been honored by both "Forbes" and the "Los Angeles Times" as a true master of the culinary art.

Casey Lane's L.A. restaurant "The Tasting Kitchen" has been named one of the 10 best new restaurants in the nation by "GQ Magazine," and the chef himself has been nominated for a prestigious James Beard Award three years in a row.

After quitting school at the young age of 15, Brendan Collins followed his dream and enrolled in culinary school. He's worked in a Michelin Star restaurant, and since moving to L.A. in 2002, has gained a reputation throughout the city for his culinary skill and flair.

With eight young people living and learning together and an apprenticeship offered to the winner, "House of Food" will no doubt be a drama-filled competition with a youthful twist. Don't miss the premiere episode on Monday, March 31.
