It's been pointed out before, but it bears repeating: kids are "in."

Nowhere is this more obvious, interestingly, than in food-oriented TV. Seriously, a glance around the culinary television landscape shows kids popping up everywhere. The Food Network has "Rachael vs. Guy: Kids Cook-Off." Fox's "MasterChef Junior" has been a phenomenal success and was renewed for a fourth season just last month.

For the past two weeks, the Food Network has been airing "Kids Baking Championship" on Monday evenings, and, with only two episodes left to go, it's been a sweet little bite-sized treat. The competition started out with eight junior bakers. Now, with only five still remaining, things are only going to get even more heated in the kitchen.

Luckily, the kids have some great expertise on hand to critique their work. The "Ace of Cakes" himself, Duff Goldman, hosts alongside actress Valerie Bertinelli ("Hot in Cleveland"), and as one of the most recognizable and acclaimed pastry chefs in the country, Goldman is certainly the guy to have giving guidance in a baking competition.

In this week's episode, airing Monday, Feb. 16, the pint-sized competitors are tasked with baking two dozen puff pastry desserts. It's a simple challenge with a myriad of ways to go wrong -- especially once the hosts announce a diabolical twist! They'll reveal a secret, savory ingredient that must be incorporated into the treats, and, with one kid going home, the stakes couldn't be higher.

And speaking of high stakes, the promised prize for the winner is as tempting as a slice of cherry pie. The winner of "Kids Baking Championship" will take home a whopping $10,000 and a complete set of Food Network bakeware products, but that's really just the beginning. The winner also lands a profile in "Food Network Magazine" and even the opportunity to create their own cake to be featured at Goldman's Baltimore cake shop, Charm City Cakes.

That's a prize package that any adult would be overjoyed to win. But, hands off: this one's for the kids. "Kids Baking Championship" airs Monday nights on the Food Network.
