What's something sweet, delicious and oh so entertaining? Why, it's Monday nights on Food Network, of course! The first weeknight is all about baking on the culinary channel, and things get even sweeter with yet another baking show added to the mix starting Monday, May 7.

That night sees "Best Baker in America" return for a second season with a new host, new bakers and new recipes over which the contestants must prove their mastery.

Regular "Chopped" judge Scott Conant takes over hosting duties from last season's Adam Rapoport (editor of Bon Appétit magazine) this time around, lending his typically knowledgeable and witty observations to the tasks set before the bakers. He's joined by returning judges Jason Smith and Marcela Valladolid, both of whom certainly know their way around a kitchen full of sweets.

Unlike similar baking competitions, such as British import "The Great British Baking Show," "Best Baker in America" isn't out to find the best amateur baker. This show is looking for the best professional from among its contestants, and because of that, this series has no qualms about throwing some really tricky tasks at the group.

With nine contestants this time around, the judges have come up with some challenges that will really test their inventiveness and baking expertise. There are old school favorites, such as decadent Mont Blanc and sumptuous charlotte royale, to be baked, along with tricky treats that really test the bakers' techniques and attention to detail, such as petits fours and layered French meringue cakes.

The May 7 premiere is all about cakes, something that should be so easy to a professional baker that nothing could possibly go wrong ... right? Even if everything does go according to plan, one baker will be sent home, putting the rest of the contestants just one step closer to the coveted Best Baker title.

It all sounds so mouthwatering, and the rotating guest judges are the lucky ones who get to join in on the tasting. Acclaimed bakers Zac Young, Shinmin Li, Sherry Yard and Florian Bellanger all take a turn at tasting, along with baking digital influencers Joshua John Russell, Yolanda Gampp and Gemma Stafford.

"Best Baker in America" joins Food Network's Monday night baking block on May 7.
