Have you ever paused mid-snack, looked at your brand-name treat and wondered if you could make a homemade version?
It's the 1950s and Alice (Pugh) and Jack (Styles) are living in Victory, a seemingly perfect community that is home to a group of men working on a top-secret project and their families. While the men are away at work during the day, the women keep their houses and enjoy the benefits of their idyllic community. When cracks begin to form in the surface of her otherwise perfect life, however, Alice soon begins to realize that things may not be exactly as they seem in Victory, and she begins to wonder just what, exactly, she is doing there in the first place. This Venice Film Festival winner is based on an original story by brothers Shane and Carey Van Dyke, grandsons to legendary actor Dick Van Dyke.
Wracked with student debt and struggling to find a good job due to a minor criminal offense on her record, down-on-her-luck graduate Emily (Plaza) soon becomes overcome with debt when she takes a shady job as a "dummy shopper," someone who buys various goods with stolen credits cards provided to her by a mysterious man named Youcef (Rossi). As Emily continues to put herself through a series of failed job interviews, she becomes increasingly interested in the wad of fast cash in her pocket from the illegal gig, as well as developing a growing interest in Youcef himself. As the two begin to spend more time together on the sketchy project, they think of ways to take it to the next level.
Originally titled "AINBO: Spirit of the Amazon," this animated family film from Peru follows the adventures of a young hero named Ainbo (Raie) and her spirit guides as they travel their homeland, the Amazon rainforest, in search of a way to save it from various threats. Also accompanied by her best friend, Zumi (Serrano), Ainbo, Dillo the armadillo and Vaca the oversized tapir experience a journey like no other.
It actually didn't take much convincing, since the "they" in that equation was the great Paul McCartney himself. "Give My Regards to Broad Street" (1984) was the ex-Beatle's idea from start to finish.
"I've been trying to make a movie for a while," McCartney told The Oklahoman newspaper at the time of the film's release. "Just 'cause I like the sort of ambiance of movies, the idea of being in them. A lot of people wanna be in movies, you know, and I'm no different."
Andrew Lincoln and Keira Knightley in "Love Actually"
Despite the presence of Marla Gibbs as a sardonic, level-headed wit on both shows, "227" is not a spinoff "The Jeffersons."
Gibbs played Flo, the housekeeper, on all 11 seasons of the classic sitcom "The Jeffersons" from 1975 to 1985. The year it was canceled, "227" premiered, starring Gibbs as the matriarch of a family that was part of the community living in a mid-rise apartment building in Washington, D.C.
Unfortunately, "Wellington Paranormal" has gone on to the grave. But unlike so many of the perpetrators they chase on the horror-mockumentary series, it likely won't rise from the dead. It was announced well ahead of Season 4's debut in New Zealand that this would be the show's final season.
Zackary Arthur in "Chucky"
Kanye [West] is back on Instagram after his account was restricted because of the anti-Semitic posts. ... Today he posted ... "I lost 2 billion dollars in one day and I'm still alive. This is love speech. I still love you. God still loves you. The money is not who I am. The people is who I am." ... Does anyone else feel like we're about to find out that, for the past 20 years, Kanye has been a Sacha Baron Cohen character?
