Frances (Moretz) recently lost her mother to illness, and when she finds a handbag left on the subway, she tracks down its owner, a lonely older woman named Greta (Huppert) whose own daughter is studying in France. The two women quickly become friends, forging a surrogate mother/daughter relationship, but when Frances finds a number of identical handbags hidden in Greta's home, she realizes that the woman has been misleading her. She tries to end the relationship with the older woman, but Greta isn't one to take no for an answer or to let her new surrogate daughter leave her behind without a fight.
A newly assembled group of dancers comes together in an abandoned school gymnasium to rehearse an elaborate and complex dance routine, and once the practice is over, the after-party begins. As the night of dancing and celebration wears on, the dancers come to realize that someone has spiked the sangria with a large quantity of LSD and that their mental states have been wildly altered as a result. The party descends into a nightmare of hallucinations, confusion, accusations, violence and sex as the dancers try to deal with the bizarre situation.

She reaches out to Summer and asks her daughter to leave Jabot and join her instead. Nate continues to pursue Abby, but she is reluctant to start dating again. In spite of her concerns, the two grow closer as friends and Abby agrees to have dinner with him.
