"Because scripted television is run by writers, the majority of producers you see listed are writers," says John August, a Hollywood screenwriter who also devotes a significant amount of time to demystifying the production process on his podcast, "Scriptnotes."

From there, the various types of producer mostly amount to a ranking system.

For TV, the executive producer is responsible only to the studio, while the other types of producers report to them.

Duncanville, on Fox

Duncan's friend Wolf seems to care more about Annie than her own kids do, so she decides to adopt him in this new Mother's Day episode. Meanwhile, Jack wants to make amends for letting Annie feel underappreciated by finding her a special flower.

Birds of Prey

Reeling from a bad breakup, a devastated Harley Quinn (Robbie) tries to pull herself back together. A night out at the club takes a turn for the worse when Harley crosses the club's owner, Roman Sionis (McGregor), who wants her dead. Harley goes on the run and soon meets Huntress (Winstead), Black Canary (Smollett-Bell) and Renee Montoya (Perez), who also have grievances against Roman. When these colorful characters learn of the young pickpocket standing in the way of Roman's evil plan to illegally procure a massive fortune, they band together to put a stop to Roman once and for all.

Fantasy Island

A group of tourists arrive at a tropical resort that claims to make all fantasies come true. They are greeted by the mysterious Mr. Roarke (Peña), the island's apparent owner. As promised, each guest soon finds themselves living out their fantasies, but when their fantasies begin to take a dark turn and a strange connection comes to light, the guests scramble to uncover and destroy the force that really runs the island before they're lost to their fantasies forever.

The Photograph

A rising journalist (Stanfield) comes across an old photograph of a young woman and sets out to discover her story. He meets her estranged daughter, Mae (Rae), who reveals that her mother recently died of cancer. What follows is two love stories combining past and present as both mother and daughter struggle with their fear of love.
