King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

Not long after Uther Pendragon, King of the Britons (Bana), defeats a villainous warlock, he is betrayed by his own brother, Vortigern (Law), who stages a coup and murders his brother. Years later, Uther's son Arthur (Hunnam) has grown into a man ignorant of his royal heritage, but when he successfully pulls the magical sword Excalibur out of its stone, the truth of his lineage is revealed. This draws the ire of King Vortigern, and the attention of an underground resistance movement whose members want Arthur to lead it in its fight to overthrow the tyrant. Vortigern, however, will stop at nothing to see his royal nephew captured and executed to preserve his own place on the throne.

The Exception

During the Second World War, German Kaiser Wilhelm II (Plummer) lives in exile in the Netherlands, where he dreams of one day returning to his homeland. When the German authorities become concerned that spies might be watching the Kaiser, they send soldier Stefan Brandt (Courtney) to guard him. Brandt soon finds himself deep in an intense and passionate romance with one of the Kaiser's maids, a woman named Mieke (James), whom he soon discovers is both Jewish and passing along information to the British. His loyalties thus tested, he is forced to choose between his country and the woman he loves.

Snatched

Emily Middleton (Schumer) has a trip to Ecuador planned, and she won't let anything interfere with her enjoyment of it, not even getting dumped by her boyfriend (Park) or getting fired from her job. She convinces her mother (Hawn), who is a cautious woman not used to travel, to come with her, but when the two of them are kidnapped and held for ransom, their dream vacation turns into a nightmare.

Director: Jonathan Levine. Stars: Amy Schumer, Goldie Hawn, Ike Barinholtz, Bashir Salahuddin, Randall Park, Tom Choi. 2017. 90 min. Comedy.

Late Laughs for the week of August 6 - 12, 2017

Conan 

Over the weekend, Los Angeles experienced a massive heat wave. Some people were so desperate for air conditioning they actually went to see the new Transformers movie.

 

At this weekend's G20 summit, President Trump and Vladimir Putin had a private 2.5-hour meeting. It's probably not a good sign that it ended with Putin handing Trump a single red rose.

 

Sharknado 5: Global Swarming, on Syfy

Fin Shepard (Ian Ziering) and his bionic wife, April (Tara Reid), once again defend the world from sharknadoes in the premiere of this campy action flick. Some of the stars making cameos include Olivia Newton-John, Charo and Tony Hawk.

The Bold and the Beautiful

The world waits anxiously as Bill holds the results as to who won the fashion challenge between Forrester Creations and Spectra Fashions. A call from Caroline and Douglas changes the entire course of Thomas's life. Katie and Wyatt push the boundaries of their attraction to one another. Nicole decides to skip out on a party that celebrates Zende's accomplishments, and he is hurt by it. Quinn is over the moon when Eric calls her and tells her he's ready to come home. Katie tells Wyatt about her suspicions regarding Maya and Zende. Quinn's world is completely rocked when Eric makes an announcement about their marriage. Katie becomes uncomfortable when Wyatt broaches their flirtations in Monte Carlo. It isn't long before Wyatt becomes excited about the opportunity of a new relationship when he is asked to go out on a date. Ridge becomes very defensive when Steffy confronts him about what his intentions are toward Quinn.

Days of Our Lives

Abigail becomes hurt when she saves Chad's life. Marlena gets into deep trouble. John and Paul come up with a strategy regarding Victor. Steve becomes suspicious that Tripp set Kayla up at the hospital. Chad, Jennifer and JJ keep vigil over Abigail. Hope and Rafe search for Dario. Roman begins to wonder if Eric once again has feelings for Nicole. Brady becomes upset by a conversation he overhears between Nicole and Maggie. Gabi tells Chad that Abigail's marriage to Dario was for green card purposes. Jennifer and JJ wait for news about Abigail. Marlena is in a familiar place. Abigail makes it through surgery, but she is not out of the woods yet. Chad tells Andre that he intends to turn himself over to the police once Abigail pulls through. Tripp is more determined than ever to make Kayla pay. Brady is suspicious about Eric and Nicole rekindling their romance. Eric provides comfort to Jennifer. Gabi hears Chad declare his love for Abigail. Tripp accuses Kayla of killing Ava. Brady gets upset when Nicole lies to him.

General Hospital

Sonny starts to lose hope. Nina finds herself getting defensive. Nathan issues a serious warning. Carly has some strong words for Jordan. Avery is completely unable to be consoled. Ava goes to great lengths to hide her appearance. Griffin is optimistic, but cautiously so. Oscar offers his support. Nelle receives a gift, which she scrutinizes. Valentin must deal with an intruder. Julian tries to lift Ava's mood. Carly looks for Michael. Dante provides some help to Carly. Sam finds herself struggling with reality. Ava receives a proposal that could change her future.

The Young and the Restless

Devon and Neil celebrate the opening of their new office in the GCAC, but Neil worries that Devon will be distracted working where Hilary lives. Devon assures Neil he has no lingering feelings for Hilary. Sharon asks Paul for details on the search for Crystal. Later, Crystal calls Sharon and tells her she ran away, but the call is disconnected before Sharon finds out anything more. Abby and Zack continue to connect personally and professionally, and they share their first kiss. Ashley arrives and tells Abby it's clear she has chemistry with Zack. Abby admits she's afraid to be vulnerable after the way her marriage ended. Paul encourages Lauren to give Sharon a chance, so she invites Sharon and Scott to dinner. Abby tells Victor about her odd conversation with Victoria. Ashley shares with Jack that she thinks Dina is depressed after the Mergeron sale. Ashley then warns Jack to tread lightly in his relationship with Nikki.

Big Hero 6, on ABC

When a masked villain threatens the futuristic city of San Fransokyo, young robotics wizard Hiro enlists the help of Baymax, a large inflatable robot invented by his brother. The heroes and their group of friends save the city from a sinister plot.

Dark Matter, on Syfy

The battle to save the galaxy continues as the members of the Raza crew struggle to survive in this new season. Inspired by the series of graphic novels of the same name, the drama stars Zoie Palmer, Melissa O'Neil and Anthony Lemke.

Q: Do you know if "Chesapeake Shores" will ever be back on Hallmark or anywhere else? I read all the books and loved the shows.

You have to hand it to the people at Hallmark. They know when they have a good formula going. They knew it with the greeting card (they're all pretty much the same, after all), and now they know it with their TV shows.

Battle of the Network Stars, on ABC

TV moms and dads take on TV kids in this new episode, with a roster that includes Chad Lowe, Lesley Fera, Mackenzie Phillips and Jonathan Lipnicki. TV stars push themselves to the limit as they compete in a variety of athletic events in this fun series.
