Every now and then, a subject becomes a hot topic in Hollywood. For some reason, multiple people sometimes have the same idea around the same time, resulting in television series and films with very similar plots being released close together. There are countless examples of these twin projects (see 1998's "Deep Impact" and "Armageddon") with many more on the way in the near future.

The Amazing Race, on CBS

Q: When will the History Channel reshow "Vanished," the movie about strange disappearances in the national parks?

It has no plans to yet, but that's not to say it won't. And what is "Vanished" about if not choosing to believe?

"Vanished" is a feature-length special starring David Paulides, who was already known to History viewers as one of the talking heads in its hit series "Ancient Aliens."

I don't want to give away the ending, so I'll just say that the documentary also comes to a pretty otherworldly explanation for a number of disappearances from American national parks.

Animal Kingdom, on TNT

The saga of the Cody crime family continues as matriarch Smurf (Ellen Barkin) oversees their wheelings and dealings in this new episode. This season, Emily Deschanel joins the cast as Angela, a former inmate who has a long history with the Cody family.

Q: Why isn't Richard Moll still doing things? He was always the best part of "Night Court," so I assumed he'd be getting roles forever.

Author:
Adam Thomlison / TV Media

Well, you weren't wrong. It's just the type of roles that have been giving him a profile problem.

Richard Moll was a fan favorite as Bull Shannon in all nine seasons of "Night Court." The always-serious but good-hearted Bull was never a lead character, but he often got the best lines.

NOS4A2, on AMC

Vic (Ashleigh Cummings) learns she must trust her gut when she looks for the Wraith in this new episode. Based on Joe Hill's novel of the same name, this drama follows a woman as she tries to defeat an immortal who feeds on the souls of children.

Kids love surprises! I think it's all part of the curiosity of youth, the need that kids have to always be exploring. To paraphrase a favorite kids cartoon character, it's all about taking chances, making mistakes and getting messy.

New Releases for the week of June 23 - 29

Dumbo

When the horses are sold as a cost-saving measure, equestrian performer Holt Farrier (Farrell) is tasked with caring for the circus's newborn elephant. Upon discovering that the infant elephant has massive ears, his boss, Max Medici (DeVito), instructs him to keep the ears hidden from circus customers. However, the ears come free during the little elephant's first performance, and when the audience mocks him, throws peanuts at him and calls him "Dumbo," his mother flies into a rage, causing great devastation and even killing a man. With his mother sold off to prevent any further incidents, baby Dumbo is befriended by Holt's two children, who soon discover that the baby animal's huge ears give him a very special ability.
