The Bold and the Beautiful

Steffy implores Liam to not consider getting back together with Hope after it's made clear that Hope wants him back. Katie worries that Bill has a drinking problem when Caroline suffers a terrible accident and all of the evidence seems to point to Bill. As Bill tries to clear his name over Caroline's incident, he is confronted by Hope about his part in sabotaging her relationship with his son. Liam confronts Rick with a punch in the face for all of his scheming ways and later gives Hope a final answer as to whether or not they have a future together.

Days of Our Lives

Kristen reveals to John that she's been plotting her revenge since she returned and could think of no better way than taking his son from him. Kristen plays innocent with Brady and tells him John was out of control, which results in a father-and-son fist fight. Kristen starts to feel slightly guilty and tries to call things off with Brady while he's in the hospital, but he refuses. Sami and Rafe prepare for their New Year's Eve dates with EJ and Nicole, respectively, but they end up kissing each other when the clock strikes midnight. EJ worries that Kristen's scheming will get in the way of his efforts to win back Sami when Marlena tells him his sister is a monster set on destroying John and his entire family. Jennifer visits Daniel at the hospital and they share a sweet kiss, while things heat up between Chad and Abigail back at the house. Meanwhile, Nick apologizes to Will for making an offensive comment, and Gabi and Sonny declare a truce.

General Hospital

Romantic sparks fly for many couples at the start of the new year, while the lives of two gravely injured Port Charles residents hang by a thread. Todd and Carly share a long, passionate kiss, but Johnny is poised to wreck Carly's newfound happiness. Starr's mettle is tested when she finds Connie in desperate need of help at the same place where Cole and Hope died. As Michael worries about Starr, Maxie and Spinelli come close to making a huge mistake when things don't go their way. Things aren't what they seem when Sonny shares a sincere moment with Connie, who might actually be Kate.

The Young and the Restless

Nick takes Avery to his new club, The Underground, on New Year's Eve, while Victor vows to wrest back control of Newman Enterprises as he celebrates with Nikki. Meanwhile, Jack spends the night with an intoxicatingly beautiful redhead he meets at the bar and wakes up the next day with a wicked hangover. Adam agrees to move abroad with Chelsea to save their marriage, but moving plans are cut short when it seems Adam may have to take Jack's place at Newman. Despite Kevin's objections, Chloe sneaks into Noah's place and makes off with his duffel bag full of stolen cash. Lily rebuffs Tyler's attempts at consolation after she says goodbye to Daniel. Neil asks Leslie how she feels about the night they spent together and later tells Cane he will return to Jabot. Phyllis spends quality time with Daniel and Lucy before they share a heartfelt goodbye and Daniel leaves Genoa City.

Q: I saw that movie "Drive," with Ryan Gosling, and I was wondering who did the very '80s-sounding music on the soundtrack?

Author:
Adam Thomlison / TV Media

Director Nicolas Winding Refn and his production team went out of their way to get the retro-'80s feel that permeates this art-house action film, and that extended to the soundtrack.

But rather than actually delve into the back catalogs for music from the era, they mined the modern electronic-music scene for acts with a similar love of neon and synthesizers.

Shark Tank, on ABC

Entrepreneurs hope the Sharks will bite when they present their inventions and business ideas. In this new episode, the Sharks are surprised when an engineer from Poway, Calif., has trouble explaining the financial aspects of his tabletop food screen.

Q: I saw "Pete's Dragon" for the first time the other day, and I'm wondering how they combined the animation and live-action sequences. How did they make Pete float while Elliott was invisible?

Author:
Adam Thomlison / TV Media

Disney has a long and popular history of combining live action with animation, and the beloved 1977 adventure "Pete's Dragon" is just one step on the path that winds all the way back to its early days in the 1920s and a series of shorts about a girl named Alice who interacts with a bunch of animated characters.

As 2012 comes to a close, many revelers are preparing to ring in 2013 in style.

Indeed, New Year’s Eve parties abound, with their focus on cocktails, appetizers and fanciful desserts. But for many, the year’s first big meal is their favorite way to usher in a brand new year (or in some cases, wrap up the previous night’s festivities).

Tournament of Roses Parade, on ABC, NBC, Hallmark

Marching bands, equestrian teams and lavish floral floats highlight The 124th Annual Tournament of Roses Parade. This year, Dr. Jane Goodall will serve as the Grand Marshal of the parade, which is themed "Oh, the Places You'll Go!"

Q: Is it true there was a TV version of "Dirty Dancing"?

Author:
Adam Thomlison / TV Media

It is true, but it was a long time ago, and it didn't last for very long.

The '80s film phenomenon "Dirty Dancing" (1987) was translated into a half-hour dramedy format (making it a little less self-serious than the film) the following year on CBS. And though this should have been a recipe for success, it barely made it through a 12-episode season before CBS stuck Baby (along with such other implausibly named characters as Johnny Castle) in a corner once and for all.
