Q: Why was Ann Coulter included in Comedy Central's roast of Rob Lowe? She's not a comedian -- are they friends?

Author:
Adam Thomlison / TV Media

Most of the guests at this year's "Comedy Central Roast of Rob Lowe" made sense, either because they're comedians who do this sort of thing for a living or because they know the enduringly handsome actor personally -- see, for example, his "The Outsiders" (1983) co-star Ralph Macchio or his "Tommy Boy" (1995) co-star David Spade, who hosted the event.

Q: Is the 1982 movie "Melanie," starring Burton Cummings, Glynnis O'Connor and a very young Don Johnson, ever going to be released on DVD? The VHS version is only available through some websites at exorbitant prices, and I don't trust the quality enough t

You're right to be suspicious of sellers found via Internet search. A website offering a "used" copy of a movie can either be offering the legitimate resale of an owner's copy or the illegitimate sale of a bootleg (which could be of high or low quality -- you just can't know).

Silicon Valley is getting a new hospital. Though Bunker Hill Hospital is fictional, the ultra-modern, state-of-the-art institution serves as the setting for CBS's newest medical drama. Starring English actor Augustus Prew ("The Borgias") and the handsome Dermot Mulroney ("My Best Friend's Wedding," 1997), "Pure Genius" premieres Thursday, Oct. 27, on CBS.

Q: Do you know if "The Little Couple" show will be on again?

Author:
Adam Thomlison / TV Media

Every show is "in limbo" between seasons -- networks can pull any show they want any time they want, and, as private businesses, their decision-making process is completely secret. But "The Little Couple" is in a particularly complicated version of limbo, for legal reasons that make the whole process a little less secret.

New Releases for the week of October 23 - 29

Lights Out

Rebecca (Palmer) is a young woman living on her own. Since her mother, Sophie (Bello), has a mental illness, Rebecca is called in when her younger brother, Martin (Bateman), begins to fall asleep in class regularly. After picking him up, rather than taking him back to his place, she brings Martin to her apartment, where she is woken up in the middle of the night by a shadowy figure in her room. The figure flees, but in the morning, she finds the name "Diana" scratched into her bedroom floor -- the name of a friend of her mother's, made while institutionalized, who had died while being experimented on by doctors. Soon it becomes clear that Diana's ghost is all too real, and all too deadly.

Director: David F. Sandberg. Stars: Teresa Palmer, Gabriel Bateman, Maria Bello, Alexander DiPersia, Billy Burke. 2016. 81 min. Horror.

When Leslie is hospitalized for bipolar disorder, Ben continues the children's education himself, including survival skills and combat training. When he receives word that his wife has taken her own life, he takes the kids on a cross-country road trip to attend her funeral, giving them their first real exposure to modern life outside of the wilderness they grew up in.

Director: Matt Ross. Stars: Viggo Mortensen, Trin Miller, Nicholas Hamilton, Annalise Basso, Samantha Isler, George MacKay, Shree Crooks, Charlie Shotwell, Kathryn Hahn, Steve Zahn. 2016. 118 min. Comedy.

Nerve

Convinced that she needs to take more risks in her life, Vee (Roberts) signs up for an online game called "Nerve," in which she gets paid for completing dares that have been made by other players. Her first dare is to kiss a stranger, so she ends up kissing Ian (Franco), who coincidentally turns out to be a Nerve player, too. Soon enough, the pair is dared to complete increasingly risky tasks together, and a seemingly innocent game begins to take over their lives.

Directors: Henry Joost, Ariel Schulman. Stars: Emma Roberts, Dave Franco, Juliette Lewis, Emily Meade, Miles Heizer. 2016. 96 min. Adventure.
