Neil deGrasse Tyson is set to host “Star Talk”

Tyson's talking: Time may be relative, but that doesn't mean that Neil deGrasse Tyson can't be relied on to keep up audiences' science education.

The famous astrophysicist and cosmologist, who serves as director at the Hayden Planetarium in New York City, has hosted the "StarTalk" podcast since 2009, and this April, he'll be launching a companion show on National Geographic Channel.

Titled "Star Talk" (as opposed to the podcast's "StarTalk"), the late-night talk show will be filmed in front of a live studio audience at the Hayden Planetarium, and much like its parent, will feature Tyson sitting down with guests for a chat about topics that are a bit more "sciencey" than the average late-night fare.

Described by Tyson as "a mixture of comedy, science and pop culture," "Star Talk" will be the second show in as many years that he's hosted on National Geographic Channel. Last year's "Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey" aired on both it and Fox, and it definitely thrust the already-popular scientist even more into the public consciousness.

As a professional science communicator, Tyson's no stranger to television. Besides the 10-episode "Cosmos," he hosted PBS's "NOVA ScienceNow" from 2006 to 2011 and has been a frequent visitor on the late-night talk show circuit, with appearances in Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report" and "The Daily Show" and HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher."

When it comes to popularizing science and all of its multitudes of discoveries, there are few who claim to be as successful as Neil deGrasse Tyson. "Star Talk" premieres on National Geographic Channel this upcoming April.

The "Battle" is on: Since taking over "The Tonight Show" almost a year ago, Jimmy Fallon hasn't hesitated to put his own comedic spin on the timeless late-night talk show. One of his many recurring sketches, though, has stood out as a fan favorite since its inception -- and now it's getting its own spinoff TV show.

"Lip Sync Battle" is coming to Spike on Thursday, April 2, with a celebrity host and proven format that leads to all sorts of laugh-out-loud hilarity.

Rapper and star of "NCIS: Los Angeles" LL Cool J has signed on to host the new show, which is being produced by Fallon, John Krasinski ("The Office") and Stephen Merchant ("Extras").

Since its inception on "The Tonight Show," the lip syncing battles have been a huge fan favorite. Each "battle" pits a celebrity guest against Fallon in a pretend singing competition, and the results are always downright hilarious.

The TV show promises more of the same, and LL Cool J, as a successful musician himself, is clearly excited about hosting. "Like the rest of the world, I'm a big fan of these battles, but this show is going to bring it to a whole new level," he said in a news release. "I'm thrilled to be working with Jimmy Fallon, John Krasinski, Stephen Merchant and the entire team to host the show and can't wait for the fans at home to join in!"

"Lip Sync Battle" premieres Thursday, April 2, on Spike.

A comic book mystery: Everyone loves a good mystery. One that currently has fans of ABC's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." buzzing is the announcement that Edward James Olmos will be joining the cast in a "massive" role for the second half of the current season.

Currently on its mid-season break, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," which follows a group of government agents protecting humanity in a world populated by Marvel's many superheroes, is due to return the the screen Tuesday, March 3.

Adding Olmos to the cast is certainly a big deal, even if it's unknown exactly who -- or what -- he'll be playing.

The two-time Golden Globe winner is certainly no stranger to whimsy. He starred in the acclaimed science fiction film "Blade Runner" (1982) and headlined the 2004 relaunch of "Battlestar Galactica" -- a series that "Time" magazine listed as one of the 100 best TV shows of all time.

In "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," he'll be playing someone named Robert Gonzales, a character that doesn't exist in Marvel's extensive stable of comic book characters. Whether Gonzales will be a friendly ally or a villainous foe for the agents is a mystery that has fans of the show buzzing on the Internet.

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." returns Tuesday, March 3, on ABC.
