In the midst of twists and turns through time, these heroes are saving the world from killers, criminals and supervillains. The Season 5 finale of "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" airs on Tuesday, June 2, and you can watch this fantasy sci-fi series on CW.

When his family was slaughtered by the organization he worked for, Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill, "Doctor Who") put together an unusual team to help him fight back. Together, they've traveled back and forth through history using the Waiverider, a time ship created by the Time Masters. Though Hunter died heroically at the end of Season 3, his mission has continued, and its purpose has transformed from vengeance to a fight for justice and peace.

The group of soon-to-be legends is made up of all kinds of misfits and heroes, including Sara Lance (Caity Lotz, "Mad Men"), aka "White Canary," who finds herself with a new superpower this season. Some of her teammates include Mick Rory (Dominic Purcell, "Prison Break"), aka "Heat Wave," a pyrotechnics expert with a penchant for flamethrowers, and Nate Heywood (Nick Zano, "What I Like About You"), who can transform his skin into metal armor, earning him the super name "Steel."

There's also Amaya Jiwe (Maisie Richardson-Sellers, "The Originals"), Zari Tomaz (Tala Ashe, "American Odyssey"), John Constantine (Matt Ryan, "Adverse," 2020) and Ava Sharpe (Jes Macallan, "Mistresses"). The series has included several notable guest stars, especially in crossover episodes with other DC shows, including "Arrow," "The Flash," "Batwoman" and "Supergirl."

Season 5 of "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" kicked off with the final installment of the five-part crossover event "Crisis on Infinite Earths." In it, the legends discovered that universes had been merged and that the sacrifice of the Green Arrow (David Ramsey, "Pay it Forward," 2000) was not for nothing. They are now learning to live with life in the public eye, as those events outed them and their heroic deeds.

The legends have begun to think outside of the box when it comes to time travel, testing the theory that they can go backwards to reform killers and criminals, rather than capturing or killing them in the present. They're successful with an accused killer whom they help connect with his prom date in the 1980s, but that's just the beginning.

In addition to their heroic missions, there is lots of personal drama -- Zari is having memories of her previous life and Constantine has been diagnosed with lung cancer. Fans may remember the short-lived 2014 series "Constantine," which was canceled after just one season but still managed to amass a devoted fanbase. CW found a way to resurrect the best of that series in "Legends," giving the canceled show's very watchable star a second chance to play the irascible Constantine.

Produced by DC Entertainment, Berlanti Productions, and Warner Bros. Television, "Legends of Tomorrow" keeps things fresh with a constant rotation of directors. As the characters travel through time to strange and interesting places, each director's perspective adds new flavor to their experiences.

With the global pandemic looming over the entertainment industry and halting the production of shows on many networks, it was lucky that production had wrapped on Season 5 of this show before mass quarantines began. So, fans can expect the full force of the season as it evolves into a satisfying finale. The show has been renewed for a sixth round as well, giving the show's writers plenty of time to develop a fantastic story arc for us to look forward to.

As Season 5 comes to a close, fans are beginning to think about what that next season might look like. Many of the main characters should reappear, including Sara, Mick and Amaya, but there are a few characters who probably won't be returning. For example, there's a pretty good chance we've seen the end of Behrad Tarazi (Shayan Sobhian, "The Chosen") for now, who was killed in his original timeline, although his sister, Zari, maintains a glimmer of hope that she might find him again.

This season also had fans saying a heartfelt goodbye to Ray (Brandon Routh, "Superman Returns," 2006) and Nora (Courtney Ford, "Dexter"), who took off to start a new life together as a married couple. That episode offered some truly heartfelt moments as Ray and Nate struggled to let each other go. But now we are left wondering who (if anyone) will become the next Atom. We'll have to wait and see whether the show will follow the classic DC cannon or take things in a new direction.

In the end, just about anything can happen when it comes to time-traveling superheroes, and with all the turns this season has taken, there's a good chance this finale will be one to remember. If you're a DC fan, be sure to watch the Season 5 finale of "DC's Legends of Tomorrow," airing Tuesday, June 2, on CW.
