Finding 'Someone Out There': You may know Gabrielle Dennis from HBO's "A Black Lady Sketch Show" or Netflix's "The Upshaws" or even BET's "The Bobby Brown Story" (she played Whitney Houston). But the actress and comedian may soon be moving back to network TV, provided her latest project lands a series order.

Dennis will soon star as the female lead in NBC's "Someone Out There," a romantic-comedy pilot from "Forever" creator Matt Hubbard and "The Good Place" writers Josh Siegal and Dylan Morgan.

It was actually ordered to pilot back in January 2020, but was pushed out to this year after the pandemic shut down the pilot season (and nearly every Hollywood production).

The delay appears to have worked in Dennis' favor, because Dominican-American actress Aimee Carrero (the voice of Adora in Netflix's "She-Ra and the Princesses of Power") was originally tapped to play the lead opposite Ryan Hansen ("Veronica Mars"). Now, it seems Carrero is out (and possibly Hansen, too) and Dennis is in.

"Someone Out There" is based on the Spanish television series, "Pequeñas coincidencias," which was produced (in part) by Amazon Prime Video. Both the original series and NBC's potential remake (it's still in the pilot stage, after all) tell the story of two "set-in-their-ways adults" as they endure the ups and downs of their relationship.

While the Spanish version featured characters Javier and Marta, NBC's version features Derek and Chloe, who "are challenged by unexpected strangers to become the best versions of themselves in order to find love and possibly each other" (per Deadline).

Dennis will play the role of Chloe, a self-made, no-nonsense bridal boutique owner and dressmaker. Chloe has always had to outwork everyone else just to get ahead, and now she's hoping to find someone she can open her heart to.

Canadian writer/director Ally Pankiw ("Feel Good") will executive produce and write the pilot.

'Hungry' casting: While Josh Duhamel wasted little time in taking to social media to share his feelings about Netflix's decision to end "Jupiter's Legacy," one of his co-stars appears to have wasted little time in booking her next TV gig.

Actress Anna Akana, who played hero-for-hire Raikou alongside Duhamel, has been tapped as a series regular in NBC's "Hungry," a comedy pilot starring recording artist and former Disney star Demi Lovato. Lovato will also serve as executive producer alongside "Hot in Cleveland" creator and "Will & Grace" writer Suzanne Martin (Lovato had a guest role in the final season of "Will & Grace").

The comedy follows a group of friends who belong to a food-issues group, and who help each other as they look for love, success "and the perfect thing in the fridge that's going to make it all better" (according to NBC).

Akana's character is Wednesday, a trophy wife who is so in control that things are actually out of control, and it's wreaking havoc on her family life.

Alex Brightman ("Beetlejuice" the musical) has also been cast as Cooper, a sweet, self-deprecating cop who works for the LAPD's Jumper Squad. Cooper offers pizza as an enticement while talking people off ledges and bridges, and now he's joined the group to lose weight for his wedding. But things get complicated when he falls for Lovato's character, Teddy.

Joining them is "Insatiable" actress Ashley D. Kelley, whose character Nicole is a body-positive divorce lawyer who decides to adopt better habits to improve her health, while Jay Klaitz ("FBI") plays Danny, a man whose mantra is "live life to the fullest" — applying that to food, drugs and strip clubs.

Rounding out the cast is Rory O'Malley ("Dreamgirls," 2006), who stars as Linus, the quick-witted group member who is determined to lose weight and find love.

One less 'Good Doctor': Fans of ABC's medical drama "The Good Doctor" were expecting the fourth season to end with a two-part closer. What they weren't expecting, however, was that the finale would mark the final appearance of one of the series' most popular cast members.

British actress Antonia Thomas ("Misfits"), whose character, Dr. Claire Browne, has appeared in all four seasons, is exiting the series and will not return for the fifth season. In an interview with Deadline, Thomas indicated she was leaving to "explore different creative opportunities" but is open to returning to the ABC series as a guest star.

"I think, ultimately, for me, it's about coming to the point where I think we've really run the gamut of different things that Claire can have gone through, and I'm now really excited to explore different creative opportunities," Thomas explained. "Having versatility and creativity has been something that's been really, really important. I've come from the British system where you play a role, you film it for a couple of months because seasons are only six episodes long, and then you can do something else, and I think after dedicating four years to Claire and her journey and really, really exploring the character, I am just now ready to try something new."

Thomas' character has certainly endured a lot over the past two seasons.

Claire's abusive mother re-entered her life in Season 3 but died in a drunk driving accident, and this past season opened with another death: that of Dr. Melendez (Nicholas Gonzalez, "Pretty Little Liars"), who died shortly after he and Claire declared their love for one another.

In Part 2 of the Season 4 finale, Claire decided to take a job at the Guatemalan clinic. It's a tidy way to bring her arc to a close while also leaving the door open for a future guest spot. Thomas's departure also allows for two recurring players to be promoted to series regulars next season: Noah Galvin ("Booksmart," 2019), who plays Dr. Asher Wolke, and Bria Henderson ("Mrs. America") in the role of Dr. Jordan Allen.
