If you haven't heard of her, get ready. You'll be hearing a lot more about Amy Schumer very soon. She's funny, she's witty and she's got a lot of gall. Catch the season 3 premiere of her hilarious sketch comedy show "Inside Amy Schumer" when it airs Tuesday, April 21, on Comedy Central.

It's borderline bizarre that Schumer's flown under the radar for so long -- you don't just happen to land three 10-episode seasons because network execs are feeling generous. She has a strong background in standup comedy, having started more than 10 years ago, and while her material often borders on the crass side, it rarely fails to draw some big laughs.

Schumer's standup career started in 2004 when she performed her first routine at the Gotham Comedy Club in New York City. It was there that she was first introduced to Comedy Central, recording an episode of "Live at Gotham," the comedy show that's featured the likes of Kristen Schaal ("Bob's Burgers"), Donald Glover ("Community"), Hannibal Buress ("Broad City"), Chelsea Peretti ("Brooklyn Nine-Nine") and many, many more.

From there, she competed in the reality show "Last Comic Standing," placing fourth, and then popped up as a contestant in the Comedy Central reality show "Reality Bites Back." Schumer's relationship with Comedy Central continued as she was featured in an episode of "Comedy Central Presents" and appeared in the "Comedy Central Roast" of both Charlie Sheen and Roseanne Barr. Since, she's had bit parts in some of the funniest comedy series on TV, such as "Girls," "30 Rock," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "Louie" and "Delocated."

Whew. It sounds tiring just thinking about all that work. Of course, it has all paid off in spades for Schumer as she enters into the third season of her show, "Inside Amy Schumer." The half-hour comedy is broken up into different segments -- sketches, street interviews, standup shorts and more -- and often focuses on more -- ahem -- adult topics. Schumer, however, doesn't blush when she delves into these kinds of issues. As she told NPR's "Fresh Air," she's always been a sexual person and her mother never shied away from being blunt.

"I have a joke where I say: 'Oh, I'm going to bring [my mom] to a soccer game because I want to show her what boundaries look like,'" she said. "I just grew up in a house where things weren't that taboo to talk about. And my mom, when she was teaching us to say our different body parts, ... there wasn't this sense of shame."

As she got older and more into comedy, though, Schumer said in the same interview she felt she could be that blunt voice on sexuality many men and women sorely lack in their lives.

"I didn't grow up hearing any women really delving into that side of themselves," she said. "So I thought, 'OK, maybe I can be this person for women and for men just to hear the women's perspective in a less apologetic, honest way.'"

Less apologetic is definitely apt, but it seems to be a formula that people are craving when it comes to comedy. Schumer and her crew were still filming the third season of "Inside" back in January, and as she told the British entertainment news site Digital Spy, everyone's just having a blast and looking towards a very positive future.

"We're just doing whatever we want," she said of season 3. "I feel like things are going well enough for me that I'm guessing we'll get a fourth season -- just guessing. ... We're just doing stuff that we think is the funniest and really not worrying about the consequences, which maybe we should be!"

With the success that "Inside Amy Schumer" is having, I don't think she should start worrying about the consequences now. People are taking notice of the beautiful blond phenom, and not just her fans. Schumer's been nominated for a Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series as well as a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series, and it's safe to assume that it's only a matter of time before she has to set up a trophy case.

Also taking notice of Schumer's hilarity is funnyman producer Judd Apatow, known for his big comic hits "Bridesmaids" (2011) and "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" (2004). Apatow and Schumer are teaming up for the latter's first leading big-screen role in this year's comedy "Trainwreck," set to hit theaters in July. Schumer will star alongside "Saturday Night Live's" Bill Hader and rub shoulders with the likes of Tilda Swinton ("The Grand Budapest Hotel," 2014), Marisa Tomei ("The Wrestler," 2008), Matthew Broderick ("Ferris Bueller's Day Off," 1986) and NBA superstar LeBron James.

If you haven't heard of Schumer, that's OK. It's almost criminal that she's been flying under the radar, and you're sure to start seeing more of her very soon. Catch the season 3 premiere of her sketch comedy show "Inside Amy Schumer" airing Tuesday, April 21, on Comedy Central.
