The Doctor is in: Is it really any surprise that a program about a Time Lord is timeless?

That's right, the eighth season of the revived "Doctor Who" is landing, and with a new Doctor occupying the TARDIS, the premiere is promising to be a doozie.

The new season got underway Saturday, Aug. 23, on BBC America, with Scottish actor Peter Capaldi stepping into the role of the titular space and time traveler. "Doctor Who" watchers have already seen him twice as the Doctor -- first last year in the show's 50th anniversary special, "Day of the Doctor," and again in the 2013 Christmas episode, "The Time of the Doctor."

This season will finally see him taking over the role as the Twelfth Doctor. American audiences will probably best recognize Capaldi for his film work, including last year's high-tech thriller "The Fifth Estate" and the apocalyptic thriller "World War Z" (2013).

Across the pond in "Doctor Who's" homeland, he's a much more recognizable face. He's probably most famous (up until now, that is) for his role as Malcolm Tucker in the sitcom "The Thick of It."

Landing the starring role in "Doctor Who," however, is something else entirely. The show is a cultural icon in the United Kingdom and a fan favorite around the world. Capaldi will be the 12th actor to take on the legendary role, joining the ranks of such legendary actors as David Tennant ("Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," 2005), Tom Baker ("Little Britain") and Christopher Eccleston ("Thor: The Dark World," 2013).

Un-blacklisted: One of last season's hit dramas is bulking up for its sophomore run.

"The Blacklist" was a much-needed success for NBC, a favorite with both critics and audiences. The highly anticipated second season may still be a month away, with the premiere set to air Monday, Sept. 22, but excitement is already building for its two new cast members.

Iranian-American actress Mozhan Marnò has signed on as a series regular, joining Mary-Louise Parker, who's joined the cast in a recurring role for the season.

Marnò is something of a hot commodity these days. She plays a major role in the critically acclaimed "House of Cards" on Netflix and has had smaller roles in "The Glades," "Bones," "Medium" and "The Unit." In "The Blacklist," she'll be playing an ex-Mossad agent who butts heads with Reddington (James Spader, "Boston Legal").

Parker, on the other hand, has been a hot commodity for years. The Golden Globe and Emmy-winning actress will first be spotted in the season premiere as a mysterious woman with old ties to Reddington. Parker's TV credits to date include headlining the critically praised "Weeds," recurring in "The West Wing" and appearing in the miniseries "Angels in America."

"The Blacklist" tells the story of one of the FBI's most wanted fugitives, former government agent Raymond "Red" Reddington, who turns himself in and strikes a deal with the law: he'll help track down and neutralize some of the most dangerous criminals on the planet. His motives remain the series' biggest mystery, something that perhaps the second season will shed more light on.

It's pulse-pounding, high-stakes television, and it's coming back for a second season. Don't miss it on the peacock network airing Monday, Sept. 22.

Nunn of that: He was there all along, and now he'll be even more front and center.

Bill Nunn appeared in almost all of the episodes of "Sirens'" first season, and now he's being given a promotion to series regular.

The USA Network comedy was basic cable's highest rated new comedy last season, so it's no surprise that it's been renewed for as second one. Starring Michael Mosley ("Pan Am"), Kevin Daniels ("Daria") and Kevin Bigley ("Brooklyn Nine-Nine"), the Denis Leary-produced comedy follows a group of Chicago Emergency Medical Technicians who maybe should take their jobs a bit more seriously.

Nunn is truly a screen veteran who's appeared in many big budget films. He starred alongside Whoopi Goldberg in "Sister Act" (1992), with John Candy in "Canadian Bacon" (1995), in the big screen hit "Runaway Jury" (2003) and in all three pre-reboot "Spider-Man" movies.

Somewhat more recently, Nunn appeared in "Won't Back Down" (2012), and on TV he starred in "The Job."

If the first season is any indication, USA Network has something special going on with "Sirens." Nunn was definitely a part of that success, and now he'll be getting the credit he deserves. A premiere date for the second season has not yet been announced.
