Boardwalk Chicago: A new cop is joining the Chicago Police Department's ranks, and he's coming all the way from the boardwalks of New Jersey to enlist.

"Chicago P.D." popped up mid-season back in January, and the "Chicago Fire" cop-show spinoff will be adding another officer to its ranks when its second season premieres Wednesday, Sept. 24, on NBC.

Handsome blond Brian Geraghty has been announced as "Chicago P.D.'s" newest cast member, joining the force as Officer Sean Roman. Roman will be filling the hole in the force that opened up when Officer Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins, "Detroit 1-8-7") was promoted during the season 1 finale.

Geraghty has most recently been seen as recurring character Agent Knox in HBO's period drama "Boardwalk Empire." He played a small role in "True Blood" and popped up in "Law &Order: Special Victims Unit" and "The Sopranos." In "Chicago P.D." he'll be working alongside his new partner, Officer Burgess (Marina Squerciati, "Gossip Girl").

He's found himself success on the big screen, too. He starred in the Oscar-winning film "The Hurt Locker" (2008), alongside Denzel Washington in "Flight" (2012) and in the war drama "Jarhead" (2005).

As part of the regular cast of "Chicago P.D.," Geraghty will be working alongside an amazing level of acting talent. Actors returning from the first season include Elias Koteas ("Zodiac," 2007), Jason Beghe ("Californication"), Jon Seda ("Treme"), Sophia Bush ("One Tree Hill") and Jesse Lee Soffer ("As the World Turns").

The second exciting season of "Chicago P.D." gets underway Wednesday, Sept. 24, on NBC.

Cyber warfare: The next CSI: Crime Scene Investigation spinoff has been moving forward quickly, and with a flurry of recent casting announcements, it's looking like it may have the acting talent to succeed.

James Van Der Beek is just the latest cast member to sign on for the upcoming "CSI: Cyber," the new CBS crime show that will deal with the fast-paced world of cyber crime with a healthy dose of the beloved "CSI" drama.

Van Der Beek was seen in another CBS show last season, the short-lived comedy "Friends With Better Lives," which was canceled after airing only a handful of episodes. His real claim to fame, though -- and his breakout role -- was as Dawson himself in the Millennial favorite "Dawson's Creek."

His other TV credits include "How I Met Your Mother," "Mercy," "One Tree Hill" and playing a fictionalized version of himself in "Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23." In the movies, he's starred in 1999's "Varsity Blues" and 2002's "The Rules of Attraction."

Of course, Van Der Beek won't be the only big-name actor headlining "CSI: Cyber." The spinoff will center on FBI special agent Avery Ryan, played by Emmy-winning actress Patricia Arquette. Arquette, of course, won her Emmy Award for her starring role in "Medium," but she's a movie star, too, starring in many films, including "Ed Wood" (1994), "Bringing Out the Dead" (1999) and family favorite "Holes" (2003).

Other members of the cast include Peter MacNicol ("Numb3rs"), Charley Koontz ("Community"), Ness Bautista ("The Shield") and Gil Bellows ("Ally McBeal").

"CSI: Cyber" is expected to premiere on CBS sometime in early 2015.

Third shot: There's no argument that superheroes are "in" right now, and the success of "Arrow" on The CW is just one of the many movies and shows telling the stories of these larger-than-life characters.

As "Arrow" rushes towards its Oct. 8 premiere, it's bulking up its cast and expanding to work in some of the DC Comics universe's most iconic plot lines and villains.

"Arrow" has hinted before that the lesser-known superhero Manhunter would one day be making an appearance, and now it seems that day has come. David Cubitt has signed on for season 3, taking on the role of Mark Shaw, one of many men who take up the Manhunter mantle in the comic book source material that "Arrow" is based off of.

Cubitt is best known for his lengthy tenure in the drama "Medium," in which he played Det. Lee Scanlon. He starred in the 2001 biography "Ali" and in the 1993 film "Alive."

Other actors climbing aboard the superhero for "Arrow's" third season include Charlotte Ross ("NYPD Blue"), Brandon Routh ("Superman Returns," 2006), Devon Aoki ("2 Fast 2 Furious," 2003) and Karl Yune ("Real Steel," 2011).

Along with the introduction of fan favorite Ra's al Ghul as the show's new primary villain, the expanding cast and upcoming spinoff ("The Flash") show that The CW has really hit it big with its superhero franchise. "Arrow's" third season premieres Wednesday, Oct. 8.
