Q: On "House M.D.," Jesse Spencer had an accent, but on "Chicago Fire" he doesn't. Which one is right?

Author:
Adam Thomlison / TV Media

Unlike the show's titular star, Jesse Spencer was not faking his accent on "House M.D."

Australian actor Spencer was playing an Australian-born doctor on the long-running Fox medical drama that starred Hugh Laurie (now of HBO's "Avenue 5"), an English actor playing an American doctor.

Perhaps inspired by Laurie's success in masking his heritage, Spencer later put on an American accent in "Chicago Fire" — and, as your question proves, he did a pretty good job.

The Duke

In 1961, famed romantic painter and printmaker Francisco Goya's portrait of the Duke of Wellington was stolen from the National Gallery in London. The culprit: a 60-year-old taxi driver named Kempton Bunton (Broadbent). Holding the valuable painting for ransom, Bunton demands not money for himself, but something far more unconventional: that the government invest more in its elderly population. What follows is a heartwarming story of a man trying to do good in his country (despite his questionable methods), all while trying to save his marriage despite the media's attempt to paint a negative public opinion of him.

Q: I just saw "The French Dispatch" and the credits start by thanking a big list of people whose names I vaguely recognize, such as James Thurber. Did they work on the movie somehow?

Author:
Adam Thomlison / TV Media

No, and indeed many of them have been dead for quite some time.

That list of thank yous named all the journalists the film was dedicated to, most of whom worked for The New Yorker magazine in some capacity. Indeed, the whole film was a sort of love letter to journalism and to that magazine in particular.
