Not directly. Depending how you look at it, it's either just a coincidence or a case of film-noir auteur Michael Mann's super-stylish chickens coming home to roost.
"Miami Vice," produced and co-created by Mann and Anthony Yerkovich ("Hill Street Blues"), debuted in 1984 and garnered an immediate, enormous impact. He brought cinematic depth and MTV stylishness to the cop show, making vice squads cool instead of square. The cop genre, and TV in general, owe him and "Miami Vice" a huge debt.
