You can be forgiven for feeling exhausted by the idea of yet another Jane Austen movie. Film and TV producers have adapted her novels more than 75 times so far, and even other authors are now doing adaptations, adding things like murders ("Death Comes to Pemberley" by P.D. James) and zombies ("Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" by Seth Grahame-Smith).

But this new "Emma" might have fresh angle that actually makes sense: It'll be a costume drama with a focus on the costumes.

The adaptation, due out next year, is being directed by Autumn de Wilde, a hugely successful fashion photographer who's also done campaign videos for Prada and stylish music videos for pop stars.

The British edition of fashion magazine Vogue could hardly contain itself when announcing the news. "Can you imagine what de Wilde could do with the early 19th century's satin gowns, transparent muslins and lace parasols?" wrote the magazine's film correspondent, Hayley Maitland.

The film boasts a pretty solid cast of up-and-comers as well. Anya Taylor-Joy landed the title role, having proven herself in period pieces (and book adaptations) with her lead in the 2017 BBC/PBS miniseries "The Miniaturist." The all-important love interest, Mr. Knightley, is played by musician and actor Johnny Flynn, who's on a bit of a classics run lately, having appeared in TV adaptations of "Les Miserables" and "Vanity Fair" in 2018.
